Europe / SEPA Country Directory

SEPA payment-scheme geography, EU/EEA/Euro Area classification, UK payments intelligence and cross-border payment intelligence across the current 41-country SEPA scope. The United Kingdom has a published Country Intelligence page today; the remaining 40 markets are on the GPIR roadmap and are marked honestly as Coming Soon rather than presented as active.

ℹ️

SEPA is not the same as the EU or the Euro Area

SEPA (the Single Euro Payments Area) is a payment-scheme geographical scope maintained by the European Payments Council (EPC) — distinct from the Euro Area (the eurozone monetary union) and from the European Union (a political and economic union). A country can participate in SEPA without being an EU or Euro Area member: the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and several Western Balkan and micro-states are current examples. Every country below is classified independently across four dimensions — EU membership, EEA membership, Euro Area membership and SEPA participation — and the local currency shown is always the country’s national currency, not an implied SEPA settlement currency. SEPA geographical scope is also kept distinct from individual scheme adherence and PSP operational readiness, which GPIR has not independently verified for any market; refer to the EPC for authoritative, current scheme-participation status.

SEPA Regional Intelligence

GPIR intends to build a regional Europe/SEPA view covering SEPA payment volumes (SCT, SCT Inst, SDD Core, SDD B2B), cross-border P2P remittances, diaspora and migration concentration, corridor economics, the fintech ecosystem, Open Banking interoperability, and regulatory developments across all 41 markets above — the same intelligence layers already scoped for each individual country, plus the SEPA-specific payment-scheme layer that sits alongside them. None of that regional-level data has been compiled or validated yet, so it is listed here as roadmap topics rather than populated with figures:

SEPA Payment Volumes

Data Under Development

SCT, SCT Inst, SDD Core and SDD B2B scheme volumes, sourced from the EPC and national central banks as each country page is researched.

Regional P2P Volume

Data Under Development

CY2025 and YTD 2026 cross-border P2P volume, aggregated only if a supportable methodology exists.

Diaspora Concentration

Data Under Development

Regional migration and diaspora heat map, sourced per country as pages are built.

Corridor Intensity

Data Under Development

Major inbound/outbound corridors across the region (e.g. Germany–Poland, France–Vietnam).

FinTech Ecosystem

Data Under Development

Regional count of payment fintechs, digital banks, wallets and PSPs.

Open Banking Interoperability

Data Under Development

PSD2/Open Banking implementation status and cross-border interoperability across SEPA markets.

GPIR will not aggregate individual country figures into a regional total unless the underlying methodology genuinely supports it — a regional number will not be published as a shortcut once countries are researched independently.

About This Directory

This directory reflects the GPIR Europe/SEPA roadmap honestly: the United Kingdom has a published Country Intelligence page; the other 40 SEPA markets are shown as Coming Soon because no page has been published for them yet. Countries are grouped by Euro Area, EU — Non-Euro, EEA / Non-EU, Non-EEA SEPA and United Kingdom for navigation and classification clarity — SEPA geographical scope, EU membership, EEA membership and Euro Area membership are tracked as four independent fields per country, never conflated into one label. Every classification chip and currency shown is sourced from the European Payments Council’s current SEPA geographical scope; GPIR has not independently verified per-institution scheme adherence or PSP operational readiness for any market. As countries are researched and published, each will move from Coming Soon to Active using the same reusable Country Intelligence template built for APAC (India, Singapore) and GCC (UAE), extended with a SEPA Payment Intelligence section — so Europe never needs 41 separate page designs.
